The inspiration for the Netheravon Chair came from the idea of creating a compact soft seating option that could inspire different configurations. Philippe Beauparlant aimed to distill the seating position to its fundamental form while enhancing the visual appearance of the chair. The result is a chair that appears as though it has been sliced out of a moment in movement, with curved forms that flow seamlessly from one chair to another.
What sets the Netheravon Chair apart is its ability to be manipulated in combinations or independently, allowing for diverse interpretations. The chair's compact dimensions make it ideal for small spaces, while its ergonomic design ensures a relaxed and comfortable user position.
The Netheravon Chair is made using molded polyurethane foam for the seat and back, which is then upholstered with fabric. The chair features an oiled solid white oak base and a painted steel back bracket. The use of these materials not only adds to the chair's aesthetic appeal but also ensures durability and longevity.
Measuring 24" wide, 24" deep, with a seating height of 15" and an overall height of 26 ¾", the Netheravon Chair is designed to provide both comfort and style. The canyon-like space between the backrest and seat adds a unique visual element to the chair, while the curved forms contrast beautifully with the chair's rigid and rectilinear exterior shapes.
Philippe Beauparlant spent several years developing the Netheravon Chair in Toronto, constantly refining its form and functionality. The latest iteration of the chair showcases an amalgamation of monochromatic tones layered over different materials and finishes, resulting in a visually striking piece of furniture.
The design of the Netheravon Chair was driven by a commitment to honesty in manufacturing and assembly. The upholstery is a sewn cover pulled over a molded polyurethane foam seat and back, mounted on a veneer core plywood base. The wood platform base and backrest can be easily dismantled with accessible fasteners, and the back support bracket is intentionally visible, adding to the chair's design language.
One of the creative challenges in designing the Netheravon Chair was to create a compact seating option that didn't appear diminutive. Philippe Beauparlant successfully achieved this by distilling the seating position to its essence, resulting in a chair that is both visually appealing and extremely comfortable.
The Netheravon Chair, with its unique design and versatility, has garnered recognition in the design world. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements.
With its compact size, ergonomic design, and versatility, the Netheravon Chair is a testament to Philippe Beauparlant's innovative approach to furniture design. Whether used in a lounge, lobby, or waiting area, this chair is sure to make a statement while providing comfort and style.
